What song is behind a TikTok original sound?
An original-sound label is not always a song title. Here is how to track down the music behind it.
By the FindTunes team
Open the song finderStart with the sound page
TikTok's sound label can name an uploaded sound rather than the background song. Open the sound page and check its title, the source video and any available artist credit. Read the video's caption for a song credit as well.
Other videos using that sound may contain a longer or clearer part of the same music. Be careful to compare the music itself: a popular sound can include dialogue, several songs or an effect that is not a released track.
Search from the video link
Copy the video link using Share and paste it into FindTunes. Search the video rather than a creator's profile: a profile contains many posts and does not identify the sound you want.
Short share links can redirect before reaching the video. Access restrictions can still stop a service from opening the destination. If the link cannot be opened, use a clip you have permission to upload or record the music instead.
Separate edits from the original recording
A sped-up edit can sound very different from its source. If recognition returns a plausible title, compare the vocals and melody before rejecting it because the speed differs. A remix can also include a recognizable sample from another song.
Check the comments or caption for words such as remix, sped up or slowed. Those clues can help you find the version in the video, but user comments are suggestions rather than verified credits.
When recognition still fails
Try a section with less narration and more continuous music. A repeated attempt with the exact same unclear audio usually adds little. A longer, clearer excerpt may give the recognizer more to work with.
Some sounds are unreleased music, live performances or edits missing from the catalog. Clearly audible lyrics or a question to the original uploader can help when recognition cannot. No finder can guarantee a result for every TikTok sound.
