Shazam alternatives for video links: which tool should you use?

Choose between Shazam, AHA Music and FindTunes based on where your music is playing. An honest guide from the FindTunes team.

Start with what you have

Have a video link? A link-based finder lets you search without playing music through a speaker. Have music playing nearby or inside another app? Shazam may already do what you need. Have a saved clip? Uploading it gives you more control over which part is checked.

This guide is written by FindTunes, not an independent review site. We have not run a controlled accuracy comparison, so we will not claim our service identifies more songs than another tool.

Shazam: music playing around you or in another app

Apple documents Shazam recognition for music playing around you and in apps such as TikTok, YouTube and Instagram. Try it when you can play the sound. It is not limited to music coming from a separate speaker.

If Shazam cannot identify a recording, a different sample may help more than switching brands. Try a section with fewer voices, effects or interruptions. No recognition catalog contains every unreleased track or every edit.

AHA Music: another browser-based option

AHA Music offers file recognition and URL scanning, with plan limits listed on its pricing page. Check those current limits before submitting a long recording. Its toolset may suit you if you want to compare a result from another recognizer.

Do not assume two tools use independent music catalogs. Trying the identical unclear sample repeatedly can produce the same result. A clearer passage is usually a more useful next test.

FindTunes: start with a social video link

Paste a supported public video link, upload a clip, or record the sound. FindTunes returns a song name and artist when it finds a match, with listening links when available. Start with five free searches and get ten more credits once when you sign up. Monthly plans start at $3 for ten searches; larger plans cost less per search. Save 20% yearly, or buy a small credit pack once.

YouTube link searches sample a limited number of moments. Choose Trim to search a specific section of a link or upload. Link trimming requires access to the video audio; if the source blocks access, upload the clip instead. Private posts, unavailable videos and quiet or heavily edited music can prevent a result.

Which should you try first?

Use Shazam when the music is already playing. Use a link-based finder when you have a public video URL. Use an upload and select a clear passage when the specific section matters. Check the returned recording before saving it, especially if the video uses a remix or sped-up edit.

A paid plan buys additional usage, not a guarantee of a match. Try the free searches with your actual videos before subscribing.
